Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts
The office of Mayor Rick Blangiardi is now accepting applications for the vacant position of Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts (MOCA).
This position is a key leadership role responsible for advancing and preserving the island’s vibrant cultural landscape. The MOCA Executive Director reports directly to the City’s Managing Director and works closely with the Mayor, community stakeholders and arts and cultural organizations to develop and implement policies, programs, and initiatives that support and promote arts and culture across Oʻahu.
The position plays a crucial role in fostering creativity, inclusivity and artistic excellence while enhancing the overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
The successful candidate will assume direct program responsibility for islandwide culture and arts-related activities, including the popular Honolulu City Lights and myriad events on the Frank F. Fasi Civic Grounds. The Executive Director acts as a liaison between the Mayor and the Commission on Culture and the Arts and also works to plan and direct the City’s involvement in coordinating various cultural events and art exhibits with different community groups.
MOCA’s Executive Director is responsible for looking beyond Oʻahu’s shores, serving as the head of all international relations activities and correspondence and overseeing the City’s robust “Sister City” program. The Executive Director coordinates and directs all cultural protocol and ceremonies related to visiting foreign dignitaries.
Above all else, the Executive Director serves as a subject matter expert in cultural knowledge to the Mayor, helping to play a vital role in shaping the city’s artistic and cultural landscape and enhancing its reputation as a dynamic and inclusive arts and culture destination.
